First Friday Watch Party: All About Otters
June 3, 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm
FreeDo you love otters? If so, you are definitely not alone. These semi-aquatic members of the weasel family are known for their cuteness and resourceful behavior.
In our June First Friday Watch Party, we’ll celebrate the recent otter sighting on the Detroit River after a long absence, and talk about the differences between sea otters and river otters. We’ll also learn about what we can do to protect and promote a safe and healthy habitat for otters throughout the Great Lakes region.
We’ll show a PBS Digital Studios and PBS Nature Animal IQ video about otters called “Otters: Cute, Playful, Geniuses?” You can learn more about the series by visiting the PBS Terra YouTube channel.
Guests for this watch party include:
–Dr. John Hartig, an award-winning Great Lakes scientist and columnist for Great Lakes Now. Hartig recently penned a special column for GLN on the significance of the recent otter sighting in the Detroit River.
–Natalie Riemer, curator of terrestrial animals at the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, MN. She is the caretaker of the two otters who live at the aquarium.
