Halloween is creeping ever closer — and bringing with it a slew of creepy movies. One of them is the classic Alfred Hitchcock thriller “The Birds,” which reimagines our fine feathered friends as something far more terrifying.

The lead actress, or victim, in the Birds is Tippi Hedren.

She attended several showings of The Birds this weekend at Detroit’s beautiful and historic Redford Theater.

The 85-year-old Hedren tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter the seminal 1963 movie marked a turning point in her life, even though she had to fend off both enraged fowl and Hitchcock himself.

Beyond acting, Hedren has also created a wildlife preserve for exotic animals and helped Vietnamese refugees start a hugely-successful string of nail salons.
