Give Washtenaw County Your Unwanted Guns, No Questions Asked
Washtenaw County is collecting residents’ unwanted guns…no questions asked.
Washtenaw County will accept unwanted firearms from citizens, no questions asked, as part of the county’s Gun Safety Week. Residents can drop off the weapons without filling out any paperwork or proof of ownership.
Spokesperson Derrick Jackson says officers will investigate each weapon turned in.
“We do want to find out if that gun was stolen at some point,” Jackson says. “If it was stolen at some point we will contact the original owner. If we find out the gun was used in a crime we still want to know that before we dispose of the weapon. There is no way to tie it back to the person who turned it in however.”
Jackson says the main goal is to get the guns out of homes and off the street. He says for each working firearm that is turned in the owner will receive a $50 visa gift card.
