General Motors Unveils All-Electric Silverado Pickup Truck
Analysts say the long-anticipated, electrified version of the Chevrolet Silverado will be a direct competitor to Ford’s F-150 Lightning EV.
General Motors has taken the covers off an all-electric version of its Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The debut took place Wednesday at the annual Consumer Electronics Show is Las Vegas, Nevada.
The manufacturer says it plans to have work and performance versions of the battery-powered Silverado in consumers’ hands in 2023. General Motors CEO Mary Barra says the first Silverado EV’s will go into production at the automaker’s Hamtramck assembly plant this spring.

“Additional lower range work truck models will follow,” says Barra, “including a base model at a very competitive starting [manufacturer suggested retail price] of $39,900.”
The battery-powered Silverado has been anticipated by analysts as a competitor in the electric truck space to Ford’s F-150 Lightning EV. And on paper they will be, as both pickups are set to be offered to customers in the same price range.
“We will launch a work truck model in spring of 2023,” says Barra, “offering an expected GM estimated range of at least 400 miles on a full charge.”
General Motors’ 400-mile battery range is longer than the 300-mile option Ford is offering. However, Ford’s F-150 Lightning EV will be the first of the Michigan-made electric trucks to market when it goes into production this year.
Ahead of GM’s scheduled Silverado EV launch, Ford earlier this week announced plans to double its production goals for the F-150 Lightning EV.
