Michigan Lifts Mask Requirement for Vaccinated People
Under new order that takes effect at 9 a.m. Saturday, people outside will not have to wear a mask regardless of whether they have gotten a shot. Those who are not fully vaccinated must still wear a mask indoors.
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan on Friday lifted a mask requirement for fully vaccinated people and said the unvaccinated do not need to wear one outdoors, adding that a broad indoor face covering mandate will expire in July.
The announcement from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the state health department came a day after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eased mask-wearing guidance for fully vaccinated people.
Michigan’s order will take effect at 9 a.m. Saturday.
People outside will not have to wear a mask regardless of whether they have gotten a shot. While inside, the fully vaccinated can go without a face covering. Those who are not vaccinated or who have not finished their vaccination must still wear a mask indoors.
A broad indoor mask mandate, however, will end after July 1. It was not immediately clear what sort of requirements could remain intact after that date.
