The Michigan Department of Transportation is showcasing the many benefits of using two wheels instead of four to move around.
It’s National Bike Month, and transportation officials are hosting a series of classes for city planners, residents and roadway engineers, according to MDOT’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator, Josh DeBruyn.
“[The sessions will] give participants an understanding of how to design bicycle facilities within the roadway, and then the participants will go out and actually ride a bicycle to experience the different roadway designs.”

DeBruyn says the courses aim to show communities how bikers and drivers can coexist safely. He says the sessions begin this week in Trenton and Hastings.
