West Side Intersection Flooded
A water main break on Detroit’s west side flooded the streets and a gas station parking lot.
A broken water main has flooded the intersection of Livernois and Grand River on Detroit’s west side this morning. The pipe burst around nine a-m…submerging the streets and a nearby Shell gas station under several inches of water.
Cashier Sharmise Franklin says the flood has hurt business.
“If they can get everything down, everything will be taken care of and it will not affect anything in the gas station,” Franklin says. “The only thing that it is doing is affecting people’s ability to pump gas.”
Franklin says several cars had to be pushed through the water.
Neighborhood resident Yvette Sims says community members should do more to limit property damage from water main breaks.
“The city needs to start getting out here and cleaning these drains out too, because on my block I was looking down the drain and it is so filled with a lot of junk,” Sims says.
City workers showed up at the station around noon to fix the broken water main.
