The Major League baseball season is only a few days old, but the Detroit Tigers have already set a historic record.

Tigers pitchers opened the season by throwing 24 consecutive scoreless innings.

That’s a modern day record for the American League and the third-longest overall in the history of the majors, behind the 32 straight shutout innings put up by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1963.

This year the Tigers’ David Price and Anibal Sanchez combined to quiet the Minnesota Twins bats by scores of 4-0 and 11-0.

Detroit’s Shane Greene threw six scoreless innings in the third game of the homestand before finally giving up an unearned run.

The Tigers now hit the road for a series against the Cleveland Indians.
