The non-profit group “Friends of Detroit City Airport” is hosting a celebration event at the Coleman A- Young International Airport on Thursday.

The group will commemorate 90 years of aviation at the facility. It was once the primary airport in the region, predating Willow Run and Detroit Metro.

It also played a pivotal role during World War Two, providing training and certificates to pilots.

WDET’s Bre’Anna Tinsley spoke with Friends of Detroit City Airport Executive Director Beverly Kindle-Walker about the history of the airport and its future.
