Construction on M-59 to Begin Next Month

Construction on M-59 between M-53 and Romeo Plank will begin in March.

The Michigan Department of Transportation will begin a two-year reconstruction of M-59 next month.

MDOT crews will keep three lanes open during the day and create a temporary lane in the median to keep traffic flowing.

Spokesperson Diane Cross says drivers should expect some inconvenience.

“At two different weekends we would have to close Schoenherr to do work through that intersection, and when that’s closed we will keep Hayes open,” Cross says. “And then when we work on Hayes we are going to have to close Schoenherr. That’s just for I believe maybe a week on each roadway.”

Cross says entrance to businesses will remain open during the construction.

She says M-59 is one of the busiest roadways in Metro Detroit carrying 90,000 to 100,000 vehicles daily.
