Stephen Henderson Named Host Of Detroit Today
Stephen Henderson has been named the new permanent host of Detroit Today.
“This may surprise you, I really like to talk to people,” laughs Stephen Henderson, the newly named permanent host of Detroit Today. “I really do like the level of understanding and communication you can achieve through conversation. A proper interview, a round-table, just a conversation with somebody really draws out the, sort of, finer points of any issue. I think radio is a wonderful, wonderful platform for that.”
Henderson is also the editorial page editor of the Detroit Free Press, a Pulitzer Prize winning columnist, and co-host of Detroit Public Television‘s MiWeek.

Henderson got his start in journalism at his high school newspaper, but it was an internship at the Detroit Free Press that he says was truly pivotal. After the Free Press internship, Henderson worked in the newsrooms of various newspapers around the country, including the Baltimore Sun where he covered the U.S. Supreme Court.
When the Free Press called an offered him the job of Deputy Editorial Page Editor, he says he didn’t hesitate before accepting the job.
“When I left Detroit I said I would like to come back someday… I would like to come back to the Free Press and help shape its voice because I feel that deeply about not just the city, but also the newspaper,” says Henderson.
Henderson says he looks forward to working in the medium of radio, where he can have expanded conversations on myriad topics and engage directly with listeners and Michiganders.
