The votes are in! We’re excited to announce the lineup for this year’s Sounds Like Detroit concert, happening on Aug. 15 at New Center Park.

More than 100 Michigan bands and artists entered NPR’s 2024 Tiny Desk Contest. At the start of summer, WDET handpicked 10 of these exceptional local acts to showcase as part of our Sounds Like Detroit contest, in which we asked our listeners to cast their votes for their favorite local performer.

Now it’s time to meet the winners, including the contest’s top-voted act, Drey Skonie & the kLOUDs — who will go on to headline the stage at New Center Park.

Drey Skonie & the kLOUDs

Detroit-based songwriter and producer Drey Skonie is an R&B soul artist drawing inspiration from the legacy of Motown and leads the versatile ensemble known as the kLOUDs. Skonie started making music at just 6 years old. Last year, he won Artist of the Year at Motown Museum’s Hitsville Next Amplify Sound competition. The kLOUDs also notably won Masterpiece Sound Studios’ Cover Song Contest. For their top-voted submission, Drey Skonie & the kLOUDs filmed a live performance of “Ripping & Running” from Skonie’s 2021 solo album, Rolling Skone.

C3theartist

C3 is a third-generation recording artist raised in a family with a rich musical heritage in gospel and R&B. He discovered his love for music at the age of 2, when he first encountered the drums, and wound up appearing on his first record at the age of 5, singing vocals with his father, Charles Laster II. C3 graduated from the Detroit Institute of Music Education with a degree in songwriting and has since headlined at festivals and concerts around metro Detroit. C3 draws inspiration from the signature sound funk and R&B and hopes to bring those vibes into our contemporary music world.

Elspeth Tremblay & the Treatment

Elspeth Tremblay moved to the U.S. from Australia in the early 2000s, studying a variety of artistic pursuits in several different cities — from portraiture to songwriting, and even the culinary arts — she’s a chef, too. Now settled in Detroit, Tremblay joined forces with bassist Ray Slagle, drummer Joe Condon, guitarist Ryan Dougherty, and saxophonist Marcelle Hawn to form a high energy indie rock band known as The Treatment. They released their debut full-length album, Iconoclastic, in 2023.

Chris Lanard & One Band Global

Chris Lanard is a Detroit-based hip-hop and R&B artist, drawing influences from Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, Outkast, and Jay-Z. Lanard has proven to be a very driven and prolific rapper, singer, songwriter and producer, with solo releases dating back to 2015 and several more appearances and collaborations with other notable artists. With his band, One Band Global, Lanard’s Tiny Desk submission featured a live performance of his song “Birds Eye View.”

Isis Damil

Isis Damil is a dynamic and engaging performer with a fiery mezzo-vocal style blend of jazz-inflected R&B melodies, particularly leaning into vocals that inspire confidence and empowerment for women. Damil has been singing and performing for nearly her entire life and has been releasing music since 2015. Last summer, Damil won WDIV’s “Go 4 It” singing competition and performed at Detroit’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

These five artists comprise the exciting lineup set to take the stage at our Sounds Like Detroit Showcase on Aug. 15 at New Center Park.
