What a wonderful celebration of Detroit music today. Almost made me cry in the studio listening and thinking about how much talent comes out of this city — in the past, today and obviously in the future, because musicians here take such care in passing the torch to the next generation. Really remarkable stuff.

Got to chat with Deon Jamar about his wonderful debut album “Alters” on his label Black Music, plus the world premiere of a Shigeto track featuring Kesswa (he’s getting ready to release his first new album in six years). Other Detroiters in the mix today: Tall Black Guy, Theo Parrish, Ian Fink, Marvin Gaye.

Plus, new music discovery from Forest Law, Natty Reeves, Wishy, Michael Kiwanuka and more.
