The Metro: Detroit City Football Club makes history
The Detroit City Football Club Women’s Team is set to face off against River Light FC at 7 p.m. Friday, at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck.

For the first time in team history, the Detroit City Football Club Women’s Team is headed to the playoffs. The team closed out the regular season finishing atop the Great Lakes Division with an undefeated record of 10 wins, 2 draws and no losses.
They’re set to face off against River Light FC at 7 p.m. Friday, at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck.
Kate Childers, a defensive midfielder for the DCFC, is an upcoming sophomore attending the University of Minnesota and playing for the Golden Gophers during the regular season. She joined The Metro ahead of Friday’s game to discuss her experience playing for the DCFC this summer season and why she believes they are doing so well.

“We just have so much depth in our roster, so many girls from all over the area,” she said. “We’ve had slightly different lineups, but our level just stays the same. Yeah, very consistent throughout.”
Childers also described the excitement that the local soccer fans have while playing at Keyworth and the unreal experience that takes place during the game. This game will be thrilling to watch as the team has gone undefeated, she said.
“We’re undefeated, no losses, and we rarely concede any goals, which we take a lot of pride in.” Childers said. “So I think just getting out there on the front foot scoring early and just playing how we play.”
