State Police say Faulty Alcohol Test will not Impact DUI Cases

Michigan State PD say bad test results gave wrong blood alcohol levels. Prosecutors say error could change convictions.

Officials with the Michigan State Police report that 4,001 cases involving alcohol-related offenses were based on measurements that were inaccurately calibrated.

Officials say in more than 60 cases the faulty tests reported a higher blood alcohol content than actually existed.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s office says in a statement that the inaccurate measurements may impact some drunk driving arrests and allow some defendants to change their pleas from guilty to not guilty.

But State Police Lieutenant Michael Shaw disagrees.

And he tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter the problem has now been fixed.
