Aretha Franklin Cancels Shows due to Health Concerns

Aretha Franklin says she won’t perform at upcoming NYC shows on doctor’s orders. She’s had health worries for years.

Legendary singer Aretha Franklin is cancelling several shows because of health concerns.

Franklin said in a statement that she would not perform over the next month or so on the advice of her doctor.

That includes two shows scheduled at New York City’s famed Radio City Music Hall, one of them a concert in honor of Singer Tony Bennett’s 90th birthday.

Franklin danced her way through a recent performance in Boston and celebrated her 74th birthday in March at the Ritz-Carlton in New York.

But she’s had health concerns for several years.

The Queen of Soul cancelled a performance in Las Vegas last year, citing exhaustion.

In 2013 Franklin bowed out of several concerts and other public appearances because of undisclosed health issues, but later said she’d had a “miraculous” recovery.

She says she should resume touring in November.
