Arash Javanbakht is a psychiatrist and serves as the director of the Stress, Trauma, and Anxiety Research Clinic (STARC). His is also the author of the new book “Afraid: Understanding the Purpose of Fear and Harnessing the Power of Anxiety.” He says focusing on things that give our lives meaning can be helpful when facing fears of existential threats.
“I think it’s extremely important to have a fulfilling life — to be able to make sense of things on my own,” says Javanbahkt. “Because a lot of times, those who feed me something are looking for something else — something for themselves — when it comes to fear of death.”
