New Campaign to Raise $1.5M For Pere Marquette River

A Michigan non-profit group is looking to raise $1.5 million to preserve the watershed of the Pere Marquette River.

A new campaign is looking to preserve the Pere Marquette River.

The Land Conservancy of West Michigan launched the “Pere Marquette Wild” campaign Tuesday.

Executive Director Joe Engel says the goal is to protect the watershed.

“It’s not just the river but all the tributaries of land that abuts it. This is a home to a teaming fish population, trouts, steelhead, salmon. We have bears, bald eagles,” Engel says.

Engel says the Pere Marquette one of the most pristine rivers in Michigan.

He says the campaign will last three years with a goal of raising $1.5 million.
