Automotive News’ “Driving to Zero” podcast dives into how automakers are approaching electrification and how they’re addressing new federal emissions standards.

Over the last five years, automakers have been committing more resources to produce and distribute electric vehicles. Ford and General Motors specifically have stated they want to exclusively sell carbon neutral vehicles by 2030 and 2035, respectively. Why did this come together now? A new Automotive News podcast explores the answer.

Jamie Butters is the executive editor of Automotive News and co-host of the Automotive News’ Daily Drive podcast, and an executive editor of the “Driving to Zero” podcast. He says there are so many things auto companies need to decarbonize aside from cars.

“As we’ve looked at it, there’s the vehicles and the factories, and then of course how the vehicles and the factories are all powered,” says Butters.

Jake Neher leads the Automotive News audio storytelling and podcasting operations, and is the host of the new “Driving to Zero” podcast about the auto industry’s shift to carbon neutrality. He says every company is approaching electrification in different ways, but they are, nonetheless, seeking the same goal.

“Last year, every single week and multiple days a week, we were reporting on billion-dollar investments…in things like battery plants and future products that are electrified,” Neher says. “The investments are happening.”
