Detroit hosting National Street Art Summit during BLKOUT Walls street art fest

Detroit is partnering with Philadelphia to host the National Street Art Summit next month.

Detroit was named by USA Today as one of the top ten cities with beautiful street art. The summit will be held during the BLKOUT Walls Street Art Festival, a renowned celebration that will bring the top ten city winners from 2022-2023 together to talk about mural art.
“Murals, as an art form, are not just being accepted, but are being celebrated in America,” Detroit’s director of arts and culture Rochelle Riley said in a statement. “We are thrilled to partner with Mural Arts Philadelphia to continue to make the creative arts a part of any conversation about what is making cities better and more beautiful.”
The summit will be held Sept. 8 at the Wayne County Community College District’s downtown campus, along with a tour of the city’s art.
BLKOUT Walls was created in 2021 by Sydney James of Detroit, Thomas Evans of Denver and Max Sansing of Chicago to provide a space for diverse artists to come together. The festival takes places Sept. 7-17 in Detroit.
