The 11-member civilian oversight group has faced significant criticism recently amid lagging investigations into police misconduct.

For years, the board kept two of its key administrative positions filled by interim appointees and was warned by Detroit law enforcement officials it was breaking the law. Those employees are now on paid leave as of last week.

Former police commissioner William Davis told the board it’s been ignoring its misdeeds for too long.

“Stop being so opaque and be more transparent. There’s corruption going on. The corruption is sitting at that table,” Davis said at the meeting.

The Detroit Board of Police Commissioners recently hired Secretary Victoria Shah to manage the office. The board also approved an offer for its chief inspector position.
