The faulty parts could leak fuel or vapors onto a hot engine and cause a fire. The recall includes Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs from the 2020 through 2023 model years.

Ford says it has received reports of 20 fires caused by the problem, including four injury claims. The Dearborn-based automaker doesn’t have a fix for the problem yet.

As MLive reports, authorized Ford dealers will inspect the fuel injectors and replace them if necessary. Technicians will also update the recalled vehicles’ engine-control software so it can detect a cracked injector and alert the driver to get it serviced.

Officials say affected owners will be notified by mail starting December 19.
