A new podcast is shining light on stories that often get left in the dark.

Reda Taleb is a de-carceration and healing justice advocate, a poet and an author. She also hosts the podcast “Tahrir wa al Hurriyah: Reimagining the Struggle for Collective Liberation.”

The podcast explores the lived experiences of Arab Americans in today’s society, covering topics like Islamophobia, mass incarceration and extremist policies that have impacted the community. Episodes are available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

“Tahrir wa al Hurriyah” comes from the Futuro Media Group Community Podcast Lab, which works with WDET to provide local advocates from various backgrounds with a platform to speak about the issues marginalized communities face.

She joined CultureShift to talk about her podcast, her upcoming children’s book and why it’s important to highlight underrepresented voices.

“We have an opportunity to speak from a more complex, nuanced perspective. And in us sharing our individual stories — and indeed, the stories of our community — we can better lock arms with those of us who have been at the forefront.” — Reda Taleb, host of “Tahrir wa al Hurriyah”
