Detroit Evening Report, September 13, 2022: Biden to visit Detroit Auto Show Wednesday

Welcome to the Detroit Evening Report, a daily round-up of news that city residents need to know.

Detroit Auto Show

President Joe Biden will get a sneak peak at the revamped North American International Auto Show on Wednesday.

He’ll travel to Detroit to view the exhibits at Huntington Place. Some area roads will be temporarily closed downtown during the president’s visit. Biden is expected to talk about the increased production of electric vehicles while at the auto show.

Media and Tech Days for the Detroit Auto Show will see journalists and industry insiders from around the world get a first look at the cars and trucks on display starting Wednesday. However, the scaled back show means fewer vehicle reveals, which were a staple at the auto show for decades.

More attention will be placed on technology of the future – in a consumer-centric way.  Detroit’s last auto show was held in January 2019.  The 2020 edition was scheduled to take place in the summer, but was never held because of the global COVID-19 pandemic.  The 2021 event was also canceled.

The auto show opens to the public on Saturday.
