A Rosy Outlook for Nyquist

A horse named for a Red Wings star is favored to win the Kentucky Derby

A horse named for a Detroit Red Wings star is favored to win Saturday’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Owner Doug O’Neill of Dearborn named his prized thoroughbred Nyquist after Wings forward Gustav Nyquist. The horse has won every race he’s run to date. Joe Drape covers thoroughbred horse racing for the New York Times, and wrote a new book about last year’s Triple Crown winner, American Pharoah. Drape tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller a couple of horses have a realistic chance to beat Nyquist. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
