Immanuel Wilkins

I hope you had a great time at the Detroit Jazz Festival and that my month of previews helped you select some artists to go and hear! This episode of Visions, however, is back to my usual programming.

For this episode I play a bit of old and new. I start the show with a lot of newer releases: a brand new single from Immanuel Wilkins’ upcoming Blue Note release, a new record from Nicole Mitchell, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, and Kurt Rosenwinkel. I play a couple releases from right here in Detroit — Say Less, a drum and keys duo, and William Hill III’s debut record recorded live at Cliff Bells.

Then for the second hour I play a lot of classics. Herbie Hancock’s Head Hunters, Charlie Parker with Strings, Dinah Washington, Horace Silver, Wayne Shorter, and Walter Bishop, Jr. all grace the airwaves.

Check out the playlist below and listen to the episode on-demand for two weeks after it airs using the media player above.
