Visions: Ahmad Jamal, DOMi & JD Beck, Brandee Younger + more
Kaleigh Wilder August 6, 2024Listen to “Visions” with host Kaleigh Wilder every Monday from 8-10 p.m. ET on Detroit Public Radio 101.9 WDET.
This week on Visions, I hit just about every decade from the 1960s to the 2020s. From the late ’60s I play Miles Davis’ “Miles in the Sky.” Ahmad Jamal, Sarah Vaughan, Abbey Lincoln and Dorothy Ashby represent my 1970s selections, then music from Wynton Marsalis and Walter Smith III hit the 2000s.
There’s also a lot of recently released music to hit the airwaves with this episode. Check out DOMi & JD Beck & Kurt Rosenwinkel, Terri Lyne Carrington, Brandee Younger, a brand new release from Meshell Ndegeocello, and some new music discovery for me: the UK-based group Uniri.
And finally, I feature a few artists you can go hear at the upcoming Detroit Jazz Festival: Marquis Hill, Christian McBride and Billy Childs.
There’s so much music to get through on this episode of Visions, so check out the playlist below and listen to the episode on-demand for two weeks after it airs using the media player above.
