MI Local: Previewing Sounds Like Detroit concert; High Strung’s Josh Malerman joins the show

This week on MI Local, I start off the show with exclusive premieres of new music by local artists, including the electro-art-rock duo Dirt Room, and the indie-folk singer/songwriter Carmel Liburdi. Along with that, we previewed a couple of shows happening around the region, including nearby at the Outer Limits Lounge in Hamtramck for the Stroh Down Festival, and a bit further out with the Ann Arbor power-pop band The City Lines set to perform in Sault St. Marie!

I also feature all five artists and bands set to take the stage at WDET’s Sounds Like Detroit concert on Aug. 15 at New Center Park. The full lineup includes:

Longtime High Strung member and New York Times bestselling author Josh Malerman joined me in studio to talk about his most recent novel, “Incidents Around The House,” as well as the charming origin story of his band. Malerman not only gave us a teaser about his latest horror novel, but he revealed the backstory for The High Strung’s most famous song, “The Luck You Got,” which served as the opening theme song for Showtime’s hit series Shameless for 10 years.
