In The Groove: Jack White secretly dropped a new album, so WDET gave the world premiere

Listen to “In The Groove” with Ryan Patrick Hooper weekdays from noon-3 p.m. ET on Detroit Public Radio 101.9 WDET.

White vinyl record that says "no name" in blue letttering.

A copy of Jack White's new record that was secretly released on July 19, 2024.

A beautiful moment in public radio with the world premiere of Jack White’s unreleased new album.

How do you come across a white label pressing like this, only marked with “NO NAME” on the front? Well, anyone that bought anything at Third Man Records in the Cass Corridor on Friday was slipped this mysterious 12” record.

I decided to see what was on it live on air today — and within seconds I could hear the signature guitar tone and voice of the one and only Jack White. So, a pretty special moment to experience that album with you (or as much of it I could play) live on the radio.

No details on the release date, tracklisting, or anything — just a mysterious record that I decided to play today. Incredible!

Were you lucky enough to snag one?

On top of that, busy Friday show with Detroit legends Stacey Hotwaxx Hale dropping in and Sheefy McFly sharing new music. Plus, fresh releases from Dr. Dog, Allysha Joy, Metronomy, Penza Penza and more.
