In The Groove: Belle Isle Bangers for 4th of July, plus Tall Black Guy’s wonderful world of edits

For the inaugural In The Groove on 4th of July, I wanted to be in the studio live so I could cook for you while you cooked out in the city.

So I’m offering up Belle Isle Bangers — songs that just sound better when you’re cruising around the island with the windows down. I think every Detroiter can understand where I’m coming from on that one.

The best part? You picked a ton of tracks to go into the mix via voicemails, including killer cuts from Sly & the Family Stone, Earth Wind & Fire, One Way, Prince and more.

On top of the Belle Isle bangers, I wanted to put a special spotlight on Detroit’s own Tall Black Guy, who has been making great music for years and is continuing that legacy with some fantastic edits and remixes of Kendrick Lamar, Luther Vandross, Sade and Donny Hathaway.
