Michigan residents begin online voting for new ‘I Voted’ sticker
Tayler Simpson July 3, 2024Nine winners will be announced in August and will receive special recognition from Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.
The Mitten State voters are showing their voting pride in a different way this year.
For the first time, Michigan residents began voting online for their favorite designs for the 2024 Presidential Election “I Voted” stickers.
Back in May, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson launched a contest encouraging students and residents to submit designs for the new look. The idea for the sticker contest came from Secretary Benson’s Michigan Collegiate Student Advisory Task Force members.
Contest entrants submitted all types of sticker designs —ranging from lighthouses and bridges to eagles and werewolves. Some stickers were drawn with colored pencils and crayons and others were created digitally.
Benson encouraged voters to walk with pride out of the polls.
“Every Michigan voter should walk out of the polls with pride, knowing that their voice has been heard. Now, we can share that pride in our democracy with a sticker designed by some of our state’s talented and creative artists,” said Benson in a statement.
Voters can go to michigan.gov and select three of their favorite stickers from each of the following categories: elementary and middle school, high school, and general entry. Out of over 480 submissions, 25 designs were selected for each category.
Three winners from each division will be announced in August and will receive special recognition from Secretary Benson.
The winner’s designs will be available for local clerks to order in time for November’s election.
The voting period ends on Wednesday, July 31, at 11:59 p.m.
