In The Groove: DJ Etta’s soulful takeover ahead of Movement, plus somesurprises brings Seattle shoegaze to Detroit

It’s been amazing to have live DJs in the mix on In The Groove this week. I loved the soulful set that DJ Etta cooked up for the class (you can see the full playlist below). She’ll be cracking open the Waterfront stage at Movement 2024 on Saturday starting at 3 p.m.

The rest of today’s set was really focused on anything but dance music, so I wanted to keep things chill.

The big discovery here is somesurprises out of Seattle, who made their live Detroit debut at Trinosophes in Eastern Market. Incredible, well-written shoegaze that has a bit of a ghosty western flare to it, don’t you think? They are definitely being added to the regular rotation.

Plus fresh stuff from Detroit’s own Ian Fink, Youth Lagoon, Rapsody, Jam City, System Olympia and more.
