In The Groove: Spotlight on Bullion’s ‘Affection,’ English Teacher might be best band in the world (April 30, 2024)

Listen to “In the Groove” with Ryan Patrick Hooper weekdays from noon-3 p.m. ET on 101.9 WDET.

Tuesday’s episode of In the Groove crashes into true summer vibes with Troye Sivan’s clever sample of Jessica Pratt on his infectious deep cut, “Can’t Go Back, Baby,” from his 2023 album, Something To Give Each Other.

From there, it’s a wonderfully bizarre sonic picnic of old and new crashing up against one another (somehow made it from Minutemen to Marvin Gaye today — a glorious public radio musical moment). Everything Ash Walker continues to slap, and English Teacher might be my favorite band on the planet right now.

Plus, some special attention paid to Bullion’s excellent new album Affectionavailable now via Ghostly International.

See today’s playlist below and listen to the episode on-demand for two weeks after it airs using the media player above.
