Weam Namou is the writer and director of the film “Pomegranate.”
It’s a story about an Iraqi woman struggling to make her way in America while managing her family, her faith and her culture. It won Best Film Directed by a Woman at the New York International Film Festival this year, as well as awards from film festivals in Sweden, India, Italy, Prague, Canada and across the U.S.
Namou is also the executive director of the Chaldean Cultural Center and the author of 15 books.
Namou spoke with WDET’s Tia Graham about writing the film in response to divisions between the Muslim and Chaldean communities after the 2016 elections.
