Back by popular demand, the Satin Doll Revue is making its return this weekend to Bert’s Warehouse Theater in Detroit.

The show is being led by Sky Covington, CEO and founder of Unlimited Sky Production and the local nonprofit, The Preservation of Jazz.

Guests will have a chance to dress up and enjoy a night transformed back to a time when jazz was king, roughly between the 1930s-1940s. The acts will include performances from Kimmie Horne as Sarah Vaughan, Tosha Owens as Etta James, Thornetta Davis as Bessie Smith and Covington as Billie Holiday, just to name a few.

Covington says the music is finding who it needs to find.

“I think it’s been a magnet to the people it should be a magnet to,” she said.

The first Satin Doll Revue was held earlier this year. Covington said she organized the second event for the individuals who still craving something special in music.

“It’s a testament to, I think people are really hungry for pureness again in our music, it’s becoming a way of life again,” she said.

The show, planned for 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, will be hosted by comedian Mike Bonner, taking on the role of Sunnie Wilson.
