Detroit is home to some of the best poets on the planet. Joel Fluent Greene is one of them.

The award-winning poet and educator is helping amplify the slam poetry scene in the city with his 2023 All-City Poetry Slam finals this Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Detroit Public Theatre. Tickets are available here.

Twelve poets will compete on stage for a cash prize of $1,500 and the title of All-City Slam Champion for this year.

“It’s my chance to bring in people from the community that I really like. That makes it a crazy competition because I pull in the best,” Joel Fluent Greene said on WDET’s CultureShift. “They are performing all the time. They are doing all the work. This slam wouldn’t be anything if it wasn’t for them.”
