Owner and founder Chef Ameneh Marhaba launched Little Liberia in 2016. Marhaba says people will get to sample unique cuisines at the event.

“So in Liberia, when you go to a party, you’ll find things like Jollof rice, chicken wings [and] plantains,” Marhaba explains. “And I wanted to bring that because it’s part of the summer vibe, and I wanted people to be able to have that experience.”

All foods served are halal and offered à la carte, with prices ranging from $9-$14.

Last summer Marhaba won $100,000 from the Hatch Detroit Contest that awards funding to small businesses. She hopes to open a brick-and-mortar location of Little Liberia next year in Midtown Detroit with the funds.

The midsummer Little Liberia popup takes place Sunday, July 30, from 4-8 p.m. at Brewery Faisan in Detroit’s Islandview neighborhood. Visit for details.
