Michigan Fashion Week has been around for 11 years and features emerging and established designers, photographers, artists and models in the region. This year’s festivities kicked off in Royal Oak on Monday, June 13 with a free networking event, and will conclude with a Streetwear Showcase on Thursday, June 15 and a High Fashion Showcase on Friday, June 16 at Eastern Market.

Loren Hicks is the Founder and CEO of Michigan Fashion Week, as well as a Detroit-based fashion designer herself. She joined CultureShift to discuss why she started the event in 2012, what trends she’s seeing this year and how Detroit’s fashion community has evolved over the past decade.

“It’s something new for fashion designers to stay here in Detroit… I think Detroit is really putting some leaps and bounds on helping the designers in the area.” — Loren Hicks, Michigan Fashion Week Founder and CEO
