The average teacher salary in Michigan is $64,000 and the starting salary is about $38,000.

The funding effort is in response to the educator shortage in Michigan and across the nation. Detroit Academy made their announcement during their “best in class” program launch to recruit candidates before the 2023-2024 school year.

The academy is looking for teachers who have five or more years of experience in the classroom as a lead teacher or teacher of record. Eligible applicants must also have a highly effective rating in the Michigan Online Education Certification System within two of the previous three years. Lastly, they must possess a valid Michigan teacher certification and demonstrate they made an impact on scholar outcomes, professionalism, commitment to equity, family and community engagement.
