Detroit-made documentary ‘Introducing… Marcus Belgrave’ follows the musician’s life and legacy
The film will focus on the generosity of Belgrave, who dedicated his career to making Detroit a Black American music destination.
Detroiter Timashion Jones is an Emmy award-winning film director who has worked on a dozen feature-length and documentary films. Along with producer and Sunne Side Productions founder Brad Torreano, the two have been working on a new documentary exploring the life of influential jazz musician Marcus Belgrave.
‘Introducing… Marcus Belgrave’ will focus on the generosity of Belgrave, who dedicated his career to making Detroit a Black American music destination. Belgrave worked with some of Detroit’s greatest musicians, including Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and The Temptations, to name a few. He’s also been influential in the careers of legends like Rodney Whitaker and helping a new generation of musicians like Endea Owens.
Jones and Torreano joined CultureShift to discuss what they learned while making the film and why they want to get it in front of as many people as possible.
“Marcus had such a profound impact on so many people and I can tell just by mentioning his name… he had the heart of a teacher and a nurturer.” — Timashion Jones, director
