The investment includes upgrades at the facilities, strengthening the EV product portfolio, and fortifying job security at these plants. According to the Detroit Free Press, that means 2,400 union and salary jobs will be retained.
Flint Engine Operations will receive $579 million to prepare the plant to assemble the next generation of engines. Bay City GPS is getting $216 million to prepare the facility to support future V8 production at Flint Engine Operations.
“These investments, coupled with the hard work and dedication of our team members in Flint, Bay City, Rochester and Defiance, enable us to build world-class products for our customers and provide job security at these plants for years to come,” GM executive vice president of Global Manufacturing and Sustainability Gerald Johnson said in a statement.
