This Thursday is Thanksgiving. It’s a time when, historically, we give thanks for the blessings of the upcoming harvest and that of the preceding year.

What are you doing to celebrate Thanksgiving? What are you doing to appreciate those nearest you? What are your cooking plans?

Essential Music hosts Ann Delisi and Rob Reinhart joined Detroit Today this morning to discuss the holiday with Nick Austin.

“I really practice healthy eating, but there’s one day, literally one day out of the year when I say, ‘butter, no problem. Salt, no problem.’ Just make everything flavorful.” — Ann Delisi, WDET host

Listen: What are you most grateful for?

Ann Delisi is the host of Ann Delisi’s Essential Music. She says that butter and salt are necessary ingredients to be using on a turkey for Thanksgiving.

“I really practice healthy eating, but there’s one day, literally one day out of the year when I say, ‘Butter? No problem. Salt? No problem.’ Just make everything flavorful,” says Delisi.

Rob Reinhart is the host of Rob Reinhart’s Essential Music, Culture Shift, and the syndicated program “Acoustic Cafe.” He says cooking for vegan family members can be a challenge.

“We’re trying to accommodate around that, and we’ll do the best that we can. But, you know, when you’re saying vegan then there’s no butter. Then you start to reevaluate the crust of the pies and sort of the flavoring for everything — it turns into a wasteland,” says Reinhart.
