Armed man arrested after barricading inside Mt. Clemens home

Macomb County officials say they have taken a man into custody with minor injuries after he fired gunshots in Mt. Clemens Monday afternoon (July 4).

WDIV reports that a 64-year-old man got into a dispute with his neighbor over a dog. The neighbor contacted police after they saw the weapon, resulting in a SWAT team arriving at the scene.

The suspect barricaded himself inside the home and authorities spent hours negotiating his surrender.

“As long as we’re talking and he keeps picking up the phone, and we’re communicating, that’s our best thing as we’ve got nothing but time on our hands,” Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham told WDIV. “If he’s watching TV, I just hope he knows we’re here to help him, and we want to resolve this peacefully. For those of you that are living in the Mount Clemens area and in or around this area to, please stay away as we have most of the roads closed down in this situation.”

SWAT team members evacuated four people from two units inside the building. No injuries were reported aside from the suspect.
