The immersive global competition puts food artists to the test and challenges them to create larger-than-life sculptures and extravagant scene work using everything from vegetables and fruit to butter and cheese. Hosted by actress KeKe Palmer with food expertise coming from Flour Shop founder Amirah Kassem (Flour Shop founder) and Chef Benny Rivera of NYC’s City Cakes, the 11-episode series features four teams who are tasked with manipulating everyday food items into grandiose works of art based on themes from the Disney universe.
“It is a madhouse of creativity; so much food! People doing things with food that I didn’t even imagine,” says contestant Ryse Swanson, an award-winning pastry chef from Metro Detroit and one-third of Team Weirdoughs, with friends and fellow Michigan-based pastry chefs Erin Sonntag and Lindsey Pritchard. “It’s fun, it’s unexpected and that’s absolutely how we felt walking into ‘Foodtastic.'”
