From Bullied to Beatbox, Stevie Soul Shares His Story and Performs Live on WDET
The human beatbox from Redford says his experiences with bullying became a catalyst for him to discover his hidden musical talent.
Growing up in Redford, performer and producer Stevie Soul was bullied for his stutter. It didn’t take him long, however, to turn that adversity into the talent of beatboxing.
“I grew up with a stutter,” Stevie Soul says. “Every time I would try to say words, I would always get caught up on the first letter. These funny, weird sounds would come out as I attempted to say words. I would take these funny, weird sounds and turn them into beats and patterns.”
Soul stopped by CultureShift to perform live in the WDET studios and share his inspiring story. Soul recently won the inaugural “Big Shot” talent competition hosted by the D Brief podcast at Planet Ant Theatre in Hamtramck.
