The 2021 Oscar Shorts Arrive at the Detroit Film Theatre
The 2021 Academy Award Nominated Short Films offer a window into animated, live action and documentary shorts that often are not available to see anywhere else because of their non-commercial formats. They are on view through the DFT through April 25.
CultureShift on 101.9 WDET-FM gives you a front row seat to the latest films playing at the Detroit Film Theatre (DFT).
Since 1974, DFT director Elliot Wilhelm has curated the films shown in this historic theater inside the Detroit Institute of Arts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the DFT has continued to bring contemporary and classic world cinema from around the globe to patrons virtually via their website.
Now Playing: The 2021 Academy Award Nominated Short Films
The 2021 Academy Award Nominated Short Films will be available for at-home viewing this year via the DFT. You’ll be able to use your cinematic skills to predict the winners before the Oscars are broadcast on ABC on the evening of April 25.
When you watch the shorts this year through the DIA’s link — which are currently active now for ticketing and viewing and will stay active until April 25 — a significant portion of ticket revenues will go directly to support the DFT, making it possible for their staff to reopen their historic 1,100-seat theater for regular year-round public screenings as soon as they can safely do so.
