Dearborn residents are finding packages of cloth face masks on their doorsteps, courtesy of the city and Wayne County. The masks, 10 per household, are being distributed by police and fire cadets.

Dearborn Fire Chief Joseph Murray says his cadets are starting with the east and south areas of town, which have been the hardest hit by COVID-19. There are 300,000 masks total which Murray says should be enough for every household. He says some distribution points are also being organized in case people want to pick up masks directly.

“We are just trying to do our best to get the masks out there so we can help protect our citizens and get through this COVID issue and get everyone back to a normal lifestyle,” says Murray.

According to Wayne County, Dearborn has had 6,277 COVID-19 cases. That means the city of about 95,000 people has the highest number of coronavirus cases in the county after Detroit.
