Tribute from Jackie Lovejoy

My husband and I are big Ed Love fans and often bought his recommendations as we’d listen to the show on Friday nights after work. 

I was working late and driving home at 7:30 pm this particular Friday 19 years ago.  I had Ed on air at  WDET  and I called the studio; my husband had a birthday coming up and I was stumped! Ed answered the phone, (to my surprise!) and I explained it was my husband’s birthday, told him I was Jackie Lovejoy and we loved ED LOVE! My husband needed some new CD’s and I was able to blurt out we were Dave Brubeck fans. I was a bit star-struck. I was on the phone with ED LOVE! 

Ed was warm and gracious and recommended the Chet Baker Trio and a few other artists. My birthday gift was a hit, and my husband was thrilled Ed made the recommendation personally! 

Ed is a Detroit gem, accessible, and has an ear we admire. My words are meager, his impact was huge! 

Congratulations Ed on 60 years of fabulous music and community in our corner of SE Michigan!
