Meet Detroit Musician Kym Brady, The Urban Violinist

The Urban Violinist has gained recognition around Detroit for her skillful instrumentation and engaging performances.

In a league with the piano and drum kit, the violin is among the hardest instruments to learn. While it’s musically complex, it is praised for its elegant and emotional delivery.  

That’s part of the draw for Kym Brady, known throughout Detroit as The Urban Violinist for her jazz, R&B, rock and pop performances. The other aspect that contributes to her joy for the stringed instrument is the positive effect it has on people. 

“It’s amazing getting the feedback from the audience [expressing] that they like what you’re doing. It helps you keep going,” the 17-year-old Brady tells CultureShift’s Ryan Patrick Hooper. “When they see [you] being authentic and actually enjoying it, they want to enjoy it too.”
