The meaning of Pernoi is “for us”.

Chef Takashi Yagihashi captivated Metro Detroit diners when he opened Tribute in 1996, then left in 2005 to become the executive chef at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. In 2002, Chef Luciano Del Signore wowed diners when he opened Bacco followed by his Bigalora Cucina line of restaurants.

These two chefs have known each other for 20 years and have both garnered numerous accolades for their culinary endeavors, so naturally, when news broke that they would collaborate on a new high-end, hospitality-driven restaurant, the anticipation was palpable.

Ann Delisi talked with the chefs about their differences, how they decided to collaborate on a restaurant, and planning Pernoi’s menu. They also talked about creating their custom kitchen in the former Cafe Via space in Birmingham to set the stage for the food they would create for Pernoi.
